ATTN: YOUR PHOTOS ARE BEING REMOVEDHello everyone,
Just a reminder that if you submit to the wrong folder (and our contributors didn't catch it in the voting process) I will remove your photo from the group.
People have been taking advantage of the 'Cosplay Tutorials' 1 vote rule and have been submitting their non-tutorial photos to the folder.
I do no move photos from folders, I just remove them.
We spend a lot of time and energy trying to make this group great for you guys.
All we ask is that you submit to the correct folders please.
Thank you for understanding everyone
Introducing: Cosplay Tutorials Folder!Well, not a single person said no!
So, we opened a Cosplay Tutorials folder!
This works a bit differently then all the other folders.
In addition to the 1 deviation you can submit a week, you can also submit 1 Cosplay Tutorial deviation!
Tutorials are to help people out, so why count it as your once a week?
We didn't think it made sense either!
Hope you all utilize it Remember to read the rules before submitting, and PLEASE submit to the correct folders so you don't have to wait another week to submit a photo!
Live, Laugh, Cosplay!
Tutorials Section?I've been playing around with the idea of having a tutorials folder.
Would anyone utilize it if I did?
(we aren't a super group so I can't just post a poll, sorry! You guys can be super lazy and just say Y or N. I just want to see what the majority thinks )
Happy Cosplaying and Holidays!
FAQI have noticed lately quite a few people have been posting asking "why was my submission declined and this other one accepted?" or "why does this keep expiring?".
Please keep in mind we have dozens of contributors with varying opinions.
If you feel your photo should have been accepted when it wasn't, try submitting it again next week.
We also get hundreds of submissions a week, and as much as we'd love to get through all of them, sometimes other engagements keep us from it.
I just ask you please be patient with all of us, we're trying our best to keep a group everyone can enjoy!
THEY'RE AT IT AGAIN, Stupid ScammersOf course they're back!
And now they have a new trick.
I just want to stress everyone to BE CAREFUL.
If anyone, and I mean anyone is messaging you asking for nudes, do not send them.
It doesn't matter how they word it, it is still the same scam everyone.
Don't be fooled by nice words like "movie" and "model".
If you receive one of these messages, I urge you to report the account as soon as possible!
Your bodies are precious!
COSPLAY SCAMMERS ON THE LOOSE! BEWARE LADIES!It has come to my attention that there are some weirdos on the loose (and I don't mean the good kind).
I'll quote what I read from Not Bad Cosplay (http://notbadcosplay.tumblr.com/post/38288553380/not-desu-enough-the-fake-cosplay-com-interviews) on Tumblr:
"For those of you who don’t know, a group has been going around scamming female cosplayers by pretending to be cosplay.com, asking to do interviews over skype. In the interviews at the end cosplayers were given a quiz on their character where if the females answered questions wrong they had to remove 1 article of clothing."
Now, I could write paragraphs of how enraged and disgusted this makes me, but I think she words it best.
(PLEASE, ESPECIALLY if you are a girl, take the time to read the rest of the article from Tumblr http://notbadcosplay.tumblr.com/post/38288553380/not-desu-enough-the-fake-cosplay-com-interviews)
I was approached by one of these people about an interview yesterday, not knowing about this scam.
OVER 10K MEMBERS?!I haven't even been looking at the member count, but we're just a few hundred over 10,000 members now...WOW!
When we made this group I had no idea it would become so popular!
So, a HUUUUGE thank you to everyone who has joined and/or contributed to our lovely gallery of wonderful cosplayers and photographers alike
You're all amazing and deserve credit for making this group what it is now.
Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday (and make sure to be careful on the 21st! I'm betting on an alien invasion... >_>b )
Do any of you have a special holiday wish?
We'd love for you to share it!
Thank you again everyone for all that you do!
Happy Cosplayer Appreciation Day!It was brought to my attention earlier that today was declared Cosplayer Appreciation Day!
In celebration of every cosplayer out there, pat yourselves on the back!
What got you into cosplay?
Do you have a favourite story of a cosplayer you know?
Introducing the "Props" folder! So, after having this group for 2 years, we've finally made one.
Venegal proposed the idea to make an actual folder for them, and since I've noticed so many people wanting to submit props... here we are!
Keep in mind that progress photos will still NOT being accepted! We ask that the prop photos you submit are of FINISHED props! and PLEASE submit them to the 'Props' folder!!
Enjoy everyone, can't wait to see them props!!
(props, props, props, props, props... think I said it enough times? It's starting to sound funny)
You CAN Do It Too! Commissions, Exposure, and...
Do you feel like no one cares about your artwork? That no matter how hard you try, you'll never improve? Well, I've been there before.
A little less than a year ago, I didn't even have 100 watchers. It was tough trying to find commissions, even though I priced them around 10 - 100 an hour. Sure, I had some wonderful people supporting me (thank you very much for that!), but when I looked at the thousands of diehard fans the "popular" artists had, I felt kinda useless. It seemed like even a thousand watchers, or just being able to earn minimum wage was impossible. Sometimes I wanted to cry from all the effort I put in. I kept drawing and drawing but barely improving. I was frustrated and felt useless. But instead of giving up, I pushed myself even harder, and by God's grace it's starting to work out for me.
I now have over 16,000 amazing people encouraging me, and I know it's only a matter of tim
No more excuses, it's time to improve your art! You’re probably well acquainted with the old proverb “practice makes perfect.” And while I don’t fully believe that perfection is attainable, because the very notion of perfection is somewhat subjective, getting better at anything requires both time and effort. I’m going be very blunt here; if you want to improve your artistic skill you need to actually practice.
My heart goes out to everyone here who is struggling to improve so don’t feel that I’m purposely singling you out here. However throughout my time on dA (and in real life) I’ve met artists begging for advice on how to quickly improve and sadly when I tell them to begin practicing the excuse is always ‘well, I don’t really have the time for that.’
And I ain’t got time for yo attitude.
You do have the time

JULY Challenge WATER - the voting is CLOSED:icontransparentplz:
All works here
This is the new way to find our winner of our monthly challenge: instead using a Poll with the ten most voted of the period, we'll be using a blog to showcase the 20 MOST VOTED on this theme!
This means, or so I hope, more exposure for your pieces and galleries.
The idea is simple: each work has a number and all deviants have the opportunity to vote like if it was a poll...with the difference that you will choose not one but 3 favourites!
All deviants may vote, INCLUSIVE who is participating; the participants may vote for themselves and ask friends and watchers to vote; this blog may have publicity by all means and be submitted in groups.
The work with most votes wins 130 points;
the second place wins 80, the 3rd place wins 50 and the 4th wins 25 .
These prizes c
Freelance Paychecks are RealA few weeks back while thinking about this journal, I came across a forum for paid photojournalism jobs. I left it some time later in complete shock. There I found posting after posting about jobs paying nothing, next to nothing, or promising payment and then paychecks never arriving in the mail. I sat there, closed the laptop lid, and thought for a long while.
I know I’m fortunate to be paid for what I do. A big part of this is because I specialize in something very few photographers are doing at a professional level. But what most people don’t realize is that even at this level a large percentage of my workload involves pay negotiations. There are contracts that took months of negotiation. Some took weeks, or a single week, or several days, or a flurry of emails or texts in just a few minutes.
Every single one of those initially low-balled me; offering me starting contracts at 10-20% of my regular rate. And despite publications th

Avoid That dAramaAnyone who has been an internet user for a period of time should know that drama is one of the hallmarks of the absolutely wonderful technology that allows us to be connected 24/7. It's like glitter, one moment all you see is just a fleck of it then suddenly, it's everywhere. DeviantArt is chock full of massive amounts of it (drama, not glitter!) at any given time, so let's talk about what you need to know to avoid it (aaaand what to do if you find yourself in it)!
I just caused the argument because... I wanted to get more pageviews, I wanted to be popular, for the lulz, I was bored
I ALWAYS have to reply
If you think the interwebs is the only place you'll find people you don't agree with, I think it's time you spent a little more time away from your computer. First off, let me say that there's nothing inherently wrong about disagreeing with someone. Nothing at
CosPod~ The Cosplay PodcastCosPod~ The Cosplay Podcast
CosPod is the podcast about all things cosplay. We cover everything from fantasy to sci-fi, from steampunk to mascots, from anime to SCA, and everything in between. Our podcast discusses the materials, techniques, people and places of cosplay. We interview cosplayers, host a gallery of costumes and techniques, and roundtable discussions of the meaning behind becoming your favorite characters; just to name a few aspects of the show.
We run the podcast for 30 minutes, bi-weekly through:
Podcast Alley: http://www.cospod.org/feed.xml
and our website. http://cospod.org/
We also take suggestions for future episodes and techniques from our viewers, and accept videos of convention reports! Most recently we made a bias tape segment after a request from a fan. We’re always on the look-out for new ideas, concepts, and topics and love when our viewers get involved. Please vi
ViolinI remember the day
you told me violins
were strung with cat gut
and that is why
you hated music
(who says that to a child?)
I followed you
all that summer.
I watched you
grow away from mother -
your whiskey held better conversations
and all she did was cry.
We'd sit cross-legged on the porch
and count the horseflies
settling on our lunch.
You would drown tadpoles
in a bucket
surprised they could not swim
and I would dream
of cherry popsicles.
And when night would gather
on the sidewalk
I'd hold my breath
until a star appeared.
Don't bother making wishes
you'd tell me -
stars are dead weight in heaven
and God has cloth ears.
to crumble up
the remnant pieces
of my love for you
and throw them in the trash
but I'm such a bad shot.
Keep in Touch!
